Teens arrested after Jones County car chase, deputies searching for driver

JONES COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Deputies have arrested three suspects, and are looking for a fourth, after an early morning car chase that started on Gray Highway.

According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office

, a deputy spotted a silver Dodge van driving towards his car on the wrong side of the divided highway.

Dashcam footage

shared by the sheriff’s office shows this happened around 3:54 a.m. on Tuesday.

Immediately, the deputy can be seen activating lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the van over. A brief chase followed, reaching speeds of up to 115 miles per hour before the van stopped on Joycliff Road. The deputy says he could see several people wearing masks in the car called for backup. Sullivan says there appeared to be a weapon in the backseat.

Shortly after, the van took off for a second time. At one point, the van’s driver had to swerve to avoid rear ending a pickup truck. The driver also switched off headlights during the chase and lost a rear tire.

Deputy Sullivan rammed the van once during the chase, and again when the car crashed into a basketball goal and stopped a outside of a home in Bibb County.

All four suspects ran from the car and three have been found. K-9 deputies tracked two of those suspects to an abandoned school on Millerfield Road. Another suspect told law enforcement that the group had just broken into a car in a nearby lot. A damaged Hyundai Sonata was found at a nearby dealership.

Jones County law enforcement thanked Bibb County deputies for their cooperation.

“We’re proud of the teamwork between our deputies, Bibb County, and K-9 Jones that helped bring this to a safe conclusion.”

The three captured suspects are charged with entering auto. Two were sent to a juvenile detention center.

Law enforcement is still looking for the driver, who has not yet been identified.
