Summer officially begins tomorrow
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Friday is the first official day of Summer 2025 and there will be plenty of heat.
This Evening
Scattered storms are ongoing this afternoon and will continue through the suppertime hours as they push south. These are courtesy of a weak cold front draped over the northern part of the Peach State. The strongest storms may bring a few damaging wind gusts, however other hazards are not anticipated. A Level 1 “Marginal” risk for severe storms includes all of Middle Georgia to account for this.
Aside from rain expect a partly cloudy night with warm and muggy conditions. Lows will be in the lower 70s accompanied by light wind from the west. Some patchy fog will again be possible ahead of sunrise tomorrow.
The First Day of Summer
Summer will kick off in Middle Georgia with a partly sunny afternoon that may feature a couple of storms. Highs will reach into the low to mid 90s with heat indexes pushing the upper 90s and lower triple digits. Wind will be light from the west-northwest.
The overnight hours will be mostly clear with light and variable winds. Lows will be in the lower 70s and patchy fog will be possible. Rain odds will be extremely slim but a stray shower somewhere in the region cannot be ruled out.
This Weekend
Despite the fact that a weak cold front brought some storms to the region for the last days of the work week, there will be no drop in temperatures for the first weekend of summer. Highs will start pushing into the mid to upper 90s as more heat indexes will start to eclipse 100 degrees. The cold front’s passage will, however, drop the rain chances this weekend.
