Six Flags Over Georgia provided an explanation of its choice in the newsletter under the heading “Fall and Winter Update”:

Following much planning and study, we have strategically decided to concentrate on providing outstanding visitor experiences throughout our main operational seasons, which are spring and fall.

The weather can more reliably support our aim of providing everyone with a fun and memorable experience, and this change enables us to focus our efforts and resources at the period when most of our guests visit Six Flags Over Georgia.

The email was sent to 45-year-old Jon Payne of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Payne wrote to a writer for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “The news was at the bottom of the email, sort of tucked away, seemingly hoping to not be seen.”

Payne, who goes by the social media handle Jonny Amusement and claims to visit about 15 to 20 amusement parks year, went to Holiday in the Park with his wife and two kids last year. The news that they would not be able to spend the holidays with him again this year devastated his family.

“It was one of the best experiences we have had,” he added of the trip to Santa. The performances in the park were equally enjoyable to us, particularly the drum line display.

The cancellation, in my opinion, is terrible. I’m sure it’s a cost-cutting move, but it undoubtedly detracts from local residents who were hoping for a wonderful theme park Christmas experience. Regretfully, it appears that Six Flags parks are now focusing on maximizing revenue while reducing expenses as much as possible.

Chris Foshee, Six Flags’ regional manager of public relations, told the AJC that the firm is addressing the adjustment directly with those pass holders who would be affected when asked what Six Flags Over Georgia plans to do for season pass holders whose season will be shortened.

What that entails has not yet been determined. There has been no answer to a request for clarification as of yet.

Foshee did mention that Heroes Fest, a new event at Six Flags Over Georgia, will premiere on November 9 in lieu of Holiday in the Park.

According to him, it’s a celebration of both your favorite heroes and regular heroes in our neighborhood.

Next week, the park’s fall calendar will include more information, according to Foshee.
