Shohei Ohtani gives up his first homer of the season, then hits a 2-run shot of his own

In the third inning, he struck out swinging.

Since Rick Rhoden in Montreal in July 1977, Ohtani is the first Dodgers pitcher to hit a home run in the opening inning. For the first time since September 2017, the struggling Dodgers have lost six straight at home, and he has hit a home run in three of those games.

In three innings, Ohtani gave up four hits and one run. On 46 pitches, 30 for strikes, he walked one and struck out three.

Before the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remarked, “I like the demeanor on the mound.” What can be improved? I believe that the only thing that needs to be done in this little sample at the moment is to keep building up. The secondaries, strike-throwing, and fastball are all in good form.

Ohtani, who is still recovering from elbow surgery, made his last mound appearance against the San Francisco Giants, pitching three shutout innings. Last season, which was his first with the Dodgers, he did not pitch at all.
