Sen. Jon Ossoff slams President Trump s spending bill

Georgia’s MACON (WMGT/41NBC) Vice President J.D. Vance gave the tie-breaking vote in today’s passage of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending cut plan by the US Senate.Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), who voted against the plan, responded to its passing by describing it as a disaster for Georgia’s healthcare system and economy.

According to Ossoff, it destroys the Medicaid program. It endangers hospitals and nursing homes. In Georgia, it will result in higher health insurance costs for middle-class and working families.

According to Ossoff, half of all newborns in Georgia are covered by Medicaid, 40% of children in the state are, and 70% of seniors in nursing homes are enrolled in the program. According to Ossoff, hospitals and assisted living facilities will be forced to the edge of their financial stability by the more than $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts. He goes on to say that Georgia’s green energy economy will suffer greatly if manufacturing incentives in the renewable energy sector are reduced.

Georgia has fared better than almost every other state in the nation, according to Ossoff, because of the manufacturing incentives that we passed a few years ago and they are already being eliminated. The industry that is currently propelling Georgia’s economic growth, job creation, and wealth generation is directly targeted by this law.

The House of Representatives will now vote on the Senate’s amendments to the bill. Republicans in Georgia’s U.S. House delegation were urged by Ossoff to halt the bill.

Members of Congress used to prioritize the interests of their states, according to Ossoff. Georgia Republicans in the House are prioritizing their partisanship and devotion to the president over the state of Georgia if they back this plan.

Before Trump’s self-imposed deadline of July 4th, Republican lawmakers hope to complete the package.
