Mike Thurmond says he brings statewide experience to race for governor

Published On:

Before stepping down in January, Thurmond, a former state labor commissioner, led DeKalb County as its chief executive for eight years. Earlier this month, he declared his intention to run for governor.

Thurmond stated that if elected, he will utilize state funds to make up for the federal losses in the tax and spending bill supported by Trump, which could, among other things, eliminate food stamp benefits and remove hundreds of thousands of Georgians from Medicaid rolls.

Two well-known Democrats, state senator Jason Esteves and former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, have already begun their campaigns; Thurmond joins them.

According to Thurmond, his background sets him apart from the other Democratic candidates.

He stated that there are deserving people vying for the Democratic candidacy. I only bring a record of my completion. I have a track record of winning elections around the state. I understand what it’s like.
