The planned $9.9 million repairs are a part of MARTA’s $1 billion station redevelopment program. According to MARTA spokesperson Stephany Fisher, doing a skip stop can save almost $5 million.
Customers won’t be permitted to enter the station to catch a train during the skip stop, but bus service at the station won’t be impacted. To connect people to train service, shuttles will instead operate between Garnett and Five Points Station.
Another option is to walk. The two are separated by four blocks.
During peak hours, the shuttles will run every ten minutes; otherwise, they will run every fifteen minutes.
Larger gray tiles—the same kind utilized in other station upgrades—will be used to replace the 40-year-old fractured and damaged platform bricks during the renovations.
Heavy cleaning, windscreen replacement, and stairway repairs are all included in the work.
The termination date of the skip stop is set for October 26. The station is anticipated to reopen to passengers on that day, however some renovation work may continue after that.
