Man charged after 58 animals found in hoarding conditions in Monroe County
Georgia’s Monroe County (41NBC/WMGT) The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man was taken into custody on Friday afternoon after he escaped from deputies during a search warrant connected to an animal cruelty investigation in Monroe County.
The arrest took place on June 27 at approximately 3 p.m. A news release stated that numerous reports of potential animal abuse and hoarding in the Hester Road area had been made to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies tried to talk to 64-year-old Darrell Jones after obtaining a search warrant. Jones escaped, but he was swiftly caught and placed under arrest.
According to the news release, deputies found eight puppies, fourteen dogs, and thirty-six cats living in appalling conditions and rescued them.
The charge against Jones was obstruction of a law enforcement official. More charges are anticipated, and the investigation is still underway.
