Macon leaders unveil 2025 Juneteenth celebration plans with music, culture and parade
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –
With Juneteenth just around the corner, leaders from across Macon gathered Thursday morning at the historic Douglass Theatre to announce what’s in store for this year’s celebration.
Macon Black Culture, along with Kwanza Cultural Access Center, Douglass Theatre and other partners, are collaborating for this year’s Juneteenth celebration.
This year’s theme is “HBCU: Homecoming Edition and Stay Woke Experience.”
The festivities are set for locations across Macon from June 7-22. Scheduled events include the “Real Talk Hip Hop Summit” on June 13, the 33rd Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival on June 14 and the 3rd annual Juneteenth Parade on June 22.
“We have a quality of experiences with culture, arts, enjoyable gatherings, and food that you rarely see most of the year,” Fadil Muhammad, Program Director for Torchlight Academy and Kwanza Cultural Access Center, said. “Much of the music will be free, and this is a wonderful opportunity to come together and enrich your family.”
Sheknita Smith, Board President of Macon Black Culture, said it’s important to celebrate Juneteenth.
“We continue to fight to ensure that the freedoms afforded to you are accessible,” she said. “This includes your rights to express yourself and access to jobs and healthcare.”
