Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MTA) gives back to the community by hosting range of events

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MTA) celebrated on Friday giving back to the community by hosting a range of events, such as a Free Fare Day, a Community Services Fair, and a Macon Celebrity Story Hour for Kids, at what is considered the Crown Jewel of Downtown Macon, Historic Terminal Station.

Free Fare Day included free MTA bus rides all day and kicked off registration for the

Teen Summer Bus Pass

. The Community Services Fair was to inform residents about various businesses and programs available in the area and Macon Celebrity Story Hour for Kids featured local media celebrities reading children’s books, such as

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

by Mo Willems, read by our very own Tucker Sargent and

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

by Michael Rosen & Helen Oxenbury, read by Yolanda Latimore, Founder of Poetic Peace Arts. Children’s songs were also sung between the readings accompanied by an accordion played by Rabbi Aaron Rubinstein from the Sha’arey Israel Congregation.

Jami Gaudet, Public Information Officer for Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority and Terminal Station says it’s all about the community.

“We consider ourselves a lifeline for them,” said Gaudet. “Whether they’re going to pick up a prescription or go to dialysis or the doctor or maybe they’re going for a job interview or to work every day or to college to better themselves. So we’re here for them and today is a special day. For us to give back to them and also secondarily to the entire community.”

“I’m very expressive and I hope it rubs off on some of the children, you know, seeing people like myself and getting the feedback from them, you see what makes them excited and interested and that’s like so heartfelt,” said Latimore.

Gaudet also says she has been planning this event for months and plans to do more like it in the future.
