Macon-Bibb County Fire Department hosts Fireworks Safety Demonstration
Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) Three days remain until July 4th, and the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department wants families to enjoy their time together while staying safe. For this reason, they are highlighting the significance of fireworks safety in the run-up to the holiday.
They lit fireworks and gave a live safety demonstration, sharing recommendations like staying sober when handling fireworks, wearing gloves, eye protection, and closed-toe shoes, keeping a safe distance, and dousing the fireworks with lots of water after use.
Severe burns are the most common injury the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department sees each year, along with numerous others, according to Lt. Jeremy Webb, Fire & Life Safety Educator.
“We see wildland fires and things of that nature because residents who choose to maybe light off fireworks around dry vegetation and things like that,” Lt. Webb added, referring to injuries, limb loss, or property damage.

In reality, people aren’t safe enough to make sure they read the box or understand exactly what something will do. How will it discharge and what will happen when it discharges? Chesney Butler, the proprietor of Warner Robins’ Freedom pyrotechnics, which provided the pyrotechnics for the event, remarked. Because you’re dealing with fire, one of the things you want to do is simply let that firework rest out there for a few minutes. That’s what we observe, a few minor details that individuals are occasionally unaware of. Safety always comes first, so make sure you drink lots of water and simply take your precautions.
Any firework must be purchased from a licensed vendor, you must be at least eighteen years old, you must always be mindful of your surroundings, and children must always be under an adult’s supervision when using fireworks.
Therefore, Lt. Webb advised being aware of it and being kind, thoughtful, and safe over this Christmas season.
We want to enjoy ourselves. “We’re here to help in any way, so celebrate the Fourth of July,” Butler added. Because we want everyone to be safe and enjoy themselves with their families, we also conduct safety trainings at our store. That’s the main focus: family and grilling.
