Hollywood Minute: Bono pulls back the curtain in new streaming documentary
(CNN)- U2 frontman Bono is inviting fans into his world like never before with the release of his one-man show, “Bono: Stories of Surrender,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
“Welcome to my quarter-man show,” Bono says in the film, setting the tone for an introspective journey that mixes music, storytelling, and raw emotion.
The documentary, based on his recent live performance series, gives longtime followers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the man behind the rock star image. “I thought I owed our audience to be honest with them,” Bono explains. “To take off the armor, put down the swords and the shield, and just be the person that I am — full of faith, full of fear.”
Shot in black and white, the film uses stark visuals to create a reflective and intimate atmosphere. “We go to church in the dark,” Bono says. “And if you’re in a rock and roll band, you’re looking for some sort of sparkle… Black and white makes it so much more stark.”
Bono says he felt safe being vulnerable thanks to the stability in his life today. “I’ve never been so grateful,” he shares. “With the security of being loved by an audience, a family, and a band, I think it’s OK to own up to my insecurities.”
