Heat intensifies for the weekend
Georgia’s MACON (WMGT/41NBC) Overnight, a weak cold front moved southward, bringing with it a few isolated showers in North Georgia. In parts of north and middle Georgia, patches of fog and mist are predicted, along with the accompanying patchy low clouds. There may be patches of intense fog. A pattern shift that will bring dry conditions to much of the region coupled with rising temperatures and humidity will begin on Friday. Showers could be restricted along and south of a line that runs from Columbus to Macon to Swainsboro, according to the present prediction. The residual front will be the focus of any remaining moisture. Much of the region will see temperatures in the lower to mid-90s thanks to a largely sunny sky. In certain areas of Middle Georgia, particularly as it approaches South Georgia, heat index readings could reach 100 degrees in the early to mid-afternoon.
