Georgia Tech sets fundraising record, nearing $2 billion goal

Last year, Georgia Tech overtook Georgia State University as the state’s largest student body, with over 53,000 students. Additionally, the school declared this spring that it had received a record number of applications.

In a press release announcing the decision, President Ngel Cabrera stated that there is no better investment than Georgia Tech. Supporting Georgia Tech means you’re funding a university that offers the finest value in higher education to students and is essential to the development of our state and country.

The school’s numerous new buildings on campus are almost finished. Next year is anticipated to see the opening of the third phase of its Technology Square project, a 400,000 square foot complex with a 14-story and 18-story structure. Fanning Student-Athlete Performance Center is also in this category. With spaces for strength and conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, and analytics, it will act as a gathering place for student-athletes and is situated on the northeast corner of Bobby Dobb Stadium.

Transforming Tomorrow is a $500 million fundraising initiative that includes improvements to athletic facilities. To date, $342 million has been raised through that campaign. The funds will also be used to upgrade the sound system, videoboard, and chairback seats at Bobby Dobb Stadium in addition to the performance center. The volleyball gym at Zelnak Basketball Center will have a wider concourse, and a new dressing room will be added.

Additionally, plans are in progress for a medical innovation complex and an aeronautical engineering facility.

The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Technology Center, which has collaborated with Georgia Tech for almost 20 years, also received about $34 million in donations. In order to enhance child care, the donations will support the development of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence as well as new technologies.

Additionally, ten students will be sponsored each year by the Georgia Tech Stamps Fellows Program. This is the fellowship’s inaugural cohort. For the anticipated five years of their Ph.D. program, each student will receive a financial package worth close to $500,000.
