Georgia DNR ramps up BUI enforcement for July 4 weekend

Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) As part of the nationwide Operation Dry Water program, Georgia DNR Law Enforcement is encouraging boaters to observe safe boating practices and stay sober during the July 4 holiday.

A news release states that Operation Dry Water is a national initiative that uses education, outreach, and enforcement to lower boating incidents and fatalities related to drugs and alcohol. Agencies nationwide are supporting this project, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Enforcement of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) will be stepped up from July 4–6.

According to the announcement, drinking alcohol while boating raises the possibility of significant injury for both passengers and boat operators. Passengers’ usage of alcohol might still result in dangerous situations even when the boat operator is sober.
