Coast faces flood threat, milder storms for Atlanta

The National Weather Service issued a Level 2 out of 4 flood risk warning for southeast Georgia on Saturday. On Sunday, that risk will still be present along Georgia’s coast, but it will decline to a Level 1 risk as it moves inland.

Rainfall totals through Sunday may range from 2 to 4 inches, with localized locations perhaps seeing up to 6 inches. Low-lying areas and locations with inadequate drainage are more susceptible to flooding.

The National Weather Service predicts that while there won’t be as much severe weather in North Georgia and Metro Atlanta, temperatures will drop due to sporadic thunderstorms throughout the day. The afternoon highs on Saturday will only reach 81 degrees in Atlanta and the high 70s in northeast Georgia, which is roughly 10 to 15 degrees colder than they were on Friday.

As a cold front stalls south of the area this weekend and into the first part of next week, conditions will continue to be unstable through Tuesday. Over the course of the period, the front will become the focal point for showers and thunderstorms, with many rounds of moderate to locally heavy rainfall anticipated.tweet.com/ppYlWSGquZ

In Middle Georgia, isolated strong to severe storms with wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph are possible. According to the Weather Service, there will be a risk between 3 p.m. on Saturday to midnight.
