Bloomfield Library hosts Drone Racing

Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) Drone races were held on the floor and in the air during an intriguing Thursday at Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center.

As part of the Middle Georgia Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program, Bloomfield Library organized a drone racing event that drew dozens of children.

Children had two minutes each to race them over the gym floor, launching them into the air, hovering, and flipping them while having fun, laughing, and occasionally yelling at each other’s flying prowess.

The Georgia Public Library Service lent the drones, which were BETAFPV Cetus Pros.

As you can see, they are indeed facing a camera. According to Kevin Bryant, Branch Manager of the Middle Georgia Regional Library, you can see through it and wear headphones. You can fly them around and they can actually move very quickly after you link them to a fully charged controller. They have small spinning fans right here, and the battery simply goes into the rear.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Bryant remarked, “I truly enjoy doing these kinds of programs.” I enjoy watching the children’s reactions when they are given access to technology and are able to attempt things they wouldn’t otherwise be able to. It’s one of the numerous services we offer both as part of the library and in collaboration with Bloomfield Parks & Recreation. Every summer, we truly enjoy spending time with these kids.

The Bloomfield Library and Recreation Center can be found at 1931 Rocky Creek Road. They will celebrate the halfway point of the summer reading program with a round of ice cream at their next event, Float to the Finish, on July 3rd at 2:00 p.m.
