Savannah mayor voices concern over Trump’s Washington takeover

On Wednesday’s episode of the Politically Georgia podcast, Johnson told writer Tia Mitchell of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “We were worried about what this meant for cities.”

On the Wednesday episode of the AJC’s Politically Georgia podcast, Johnson stated, “The truth is, I have no idea where President Donald Trump is getting his facts from.” In D.C., violent crime had dropped to a level not seen in thirty years.

Johnson also discussed the significance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the current contest for the vacant House seat in District 1, which is being contested by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter, a Republican from St. Simons Island, for the U.S. Senate.

He stated that we need someone to represent FEMA in that position. FEMA would disappear, according to President Donald Trump. For coastal towns like Savannah, that is simply not feasible.

Johnson, who has a term limit, has stated that he would not run for Congress this cycle, but he has not ruled out running for other public positions.

“I’ve been at this for a long time,” the Democrat from Savannah, who was elected to office in 2004, stated.I’m scarred by battle. We’ll see what the Lord says, though.

Mitchell discusses his latest rally in Georgia, his plans for 2028, and his campaign for the release of the Epstein papers with Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., later in the show.
