Financial relief floated for Cascade businesses hurt by slow city construction

Nearly 1,200 people have signed an online petition requesting that the city create a rehabilitation fund of at least $8 million.

Mayor Andre Dickens’ mentor and backer, former Atlanta mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, joined business owners in putting pressure on the city to complete the project.

Atlanta City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet sponsored the legislation that would allow money from the Atlanta Recovery Fund first established to helpbusinesses impacted by last year s water crisisto be used in support of Cascade Road businesses.

“We must utilize the remaining funds in the fund and provide them with them,” she stated.

The amount of funding the city will commit to the project is unknown. However, if approved, affected companies will be eligible to apply for grants to receive financial support.

The city has also taken steps to speed up construction. Atlanta s transportation department announced it would ramp work along Cascade Road to anaround-the-clock work schedule.
