On March 14, 2023, Asijah passed away before paramedics could reach him.

The man who is suspected of firing the fatal shot was given a life sentence plus five years on Tuesday. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said that Kionta Parks, 23, of Griffin, entered a guilty plea to all charges of the indictment against him, including domestic terrorism, felony murder, aggravated assault, and violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

In an emailed statement, Carr said, “Kionta Parks is exactly what we’re fighting against every day—someone who would so recklessly take a life, destroy a family, and terrorize a community without fear or remorse.” Gang violence is right outside their door, therefore no parent should have to worry about their child getting through the night. In the same way that Asijah deserved to feel safe, so do they.

“We hope there is comfort in knowing that justice has been served and Asijah’s memory will never be forgotten,” Carr said, adding that nothing can take away the grief caused by this defendant’s senseless actions.

When Asijah was killed, she was just one month away from turning twelve. Days later, Parks was charged with murder by the Spalding sheriff’s office. However, he was apprehended after a month of being on the run.

Prosecutors claim that Parks, a member of the illegal street gang Zoo Krew, targeted a younger gang member that night while driving with a 3-year-old. Investigators reported that he fired 28 shots, with five 9mm and 23 rifle casings discovered at the scene.

Parks killed Asijah instead of the person he wanted to kill. Not harmed were her mother, sister, and brother, who were also in the flat.

Late on Wednesday, Marcus Jones, the father of Asijah and Angel, stated that it might have been both of them.

According to her relatives, the sixth-grader who was killed was known for both her humor and her lofty aspirations.

Asijah was a kind and affectionate young woman, according to her obituary. Asijah made everyone she came into contact with happy despite her shyness. Asijah was a kind and affectionate person.

According to her relatives, she loved swimming, skating, riding bikes, painting, and video editing. Red, black, and purple were Asijah’s favorite hues.

According to Marcus Jones, he and Angel have found it difficult to cope with Asijah’s passing. He claimed that throughout the plea and punishment, several people in the courtroom were in tears.

Jones declared, “It’s time to do some healing.” We can try to heal now, it seems.

In order to put the pieces of the case together and secure justice for Asijah, Spalding Sheriff Darrell Dix said his deputies and prosecutors collaborated extensively.

According to Dix, Kionta Parks stood before a judge, Asijah’s parents, friends, and family on Tuesday when he entered his plea. His entire life has been a total failure and waste, and he acknowledged to everyone in the courtroom that he killed an 11-year-old girl who had her entire life ahead of her. He will now languish in a prison cell and waste what little time he has left.
