Dailor recently told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, “Being asked to be a part of that is probably the biggest honor of my life.” Greater than a Grammy, greater than anything we’ve ever been honored to be a part of.
The heavy metal legend has influenced the music of other Georgia bands, including Mastodon.
Osbourne founded Black Sabbath 57 years ago with Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward. By April of 1979, Osbourne had left the group. He would go on to establish his own reality show and a huge solo career. Prior to his passing, he sold 100 million recordings, including those from his time with Black Sabbath.
Apart from Mastodon, other local performers who have been influenced by the Prince of Darkness include T-Pain, who gained notoriety in 2023 for their rendition of Black Sabbath’s classic song “War Pigs.” Later on, Osbourne would refer to it as the greatest War Pigs cover ever.
T-Pain, devastated by the news, posted on Instagram following Osbourne’s passing. Being able to cover War Pigs and receive your acknowledgment was a blessing. Forever Ozzy.
Even in his sleepy Blue Ridge neighborhood, which is located far from Georgia’s capital, Black Sabbath changed everything for local Grammy-nominated musician John Baizley, frontman of Savannah’s Baroness.
In April, Bailey told Loudwireback, “We didn’t get a lot of live music and certainly didn’t get a lot of contemporary live music anywhere near us when we were growing up because we weren’t part of the national touring circuit.”
Steve, a friend’s father who was heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, taught the Georgia musician how to play the guitar.
“The Paranoid riff was one of the first things he taught me because it was a key riff for Steve when he was younger and it also kind of spoke to my generation of kids,” Baizley revealed. We belonged to the generation that included Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. Sabbath was responsible for all of those bands that had a hint of heaviness.
Dailor claimed that there was a lot of love and admiration for the giant oak tree that is Black Sabbath at the Back to the Beginning performance in Birmingham.
Regarding the lineup, which also featured rock and metal heavyweights Alice in Chains, Tool, and Metallica, Dailor stated that there were no egos. “We’re here for Sabbath,” everyone said. For Ozzy, we are here. To honor the elders of Black Sabbath, who gave us this amazing genre that we all needed and a location that we all call home, we’re here to take part in what is perhaps the best heavy metal concert of all time.
According to Dailor, there is still a lot to discover about Osbourne’s legacy.
His songs appeared in hip-hop samples everywhere. “Dailor said.” Do you understand? Therefore, I believe that he was a cultural symbol that kind of transcended all backgrounds and music scenes.
People from other genres, including country, are paying tribute to this man because they adore him and believe that his musical influence extends beyond heavy metal. Because we are heavy metal fans and metalheads, we feel as though we own him or that he is our patron saint. But, you know? He was everyone’s. There are tributes coming from all across the world, as you can see.
