In response to the tremendous volume of pleas for support, his family started an online fundraising, the county said in a statement issued late Sunday. According to the GoFundMe page, it is the only official fundraising to support his family.
As of early Monday, the website had raised about $30,000.
The officer has two children and was expecting a third. In March, he received his diploma from the department’s academy.
During the graduation ceremony, Rose, who was the class leader for his academy, reminded his classmates that policing was more than simply upholding the law.
“It’s about standing up for justice, protecting the weak, and being the one who runs toward danger when others flee,” he said.
He did just that on Friday.
According to a statement from county officials, Officer Rose’s impact will endure in the community he served, among his coworkers, and among his family, who loved him unconditionally.
