Ramirez was sentenced in 2020 for assaulting a guy outside a Whole Foods grocery store in June 2019, Los Angeles police Capt. Ben Fernandes told KNBC-TV on Sunday. It’s unclear if his parole was related to the 2019 attack or another case when he was on it at the time of Saturday’s crash.
According to KNBC, Ramirez has been involved in at least 11 criminal proceedings, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. He pleaded not guilty to a felony domestic assault accusation in January 2022. That case is still pending.
Around two in the morning, a Nissan Versa slammed a line of people, primarily women, who were waiting to enter the Vermont Hollywood event site. The vehicle reportedly impacted a valet stand and a food vending cart, according to Fire Capt. Adam VanGerpen on Saturday.
Police reported Sunday that at least 36 people received treatment for injuries, including cuts and fractures, but they did not provide any updates on their health.
It wasn’t immediately apparent why Ramirez drove into the crowd or whether he had been shot before or after the collision.
