According to a GoFundMe page and Channel 2 Action News, the boy’s relatives named him as Desiyah Reed.
The fundraiser page reads, “With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our beloved 13-year-old son, Desiyah Turtle Reed, has passed away after being critically injured in a senseless act of gun violence in an Austell subdivision.” Desiyah gave it his all in the battle. He clung as long as he could, surrounded by hope, love, and prayers. However, God had other ideas, and today our beloved turtle has wings.
Police said Tuesday morning that they have taken three young suspects into custody in relation to the incident. According to their warrants, two of the three, who have the same last name and an unincorporated Austell address, shot the victim with a pistol and were charged with six counts of aggravated assault/intent to murder. Three charges of the same charge are pending against the third suspect.
The police have now charged all three with murder. No details on a potential motivation were made public.
When a minor is arrested, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution does not publish their name unless they are facing adult charges. Booking records indicate that they were not being held at the Cobb jail.
Desiyah Reed’s funeral was still to be scheduled.
According to the GoFundMe page, “We won’t let Turtle’s name fade away.” In addition to celebrating the lovely soul that he was, we shall strive for justice. Turtle, soar high. Our hearts will always hold a place for you.
