Fourth of July pet safety tips from Bibb County Animal Control
Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) Fireworks can be stressful and dangerous for pets, even though they are a popular part of Independence Day celebrations.
Pet owners should take precautions to keep their animals safe over the holiday, according to Animal Control Officer Daniel Mitchell of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Division.
To lessen anxiety and avoid panic, he advises keeping pets indoors during fireworks displays in a safe location, like a small bedroom or box.
Mitchell also advises using over-the-counter remedies from a nearby pet store or speaking with a veterinarian about calming drugs.
Another piece of advice is to keep barbecue food away from pets because the grease and spices might cause intestinal problems.
He also underlined how crucial pet microchipping is. A veterinarian or shelter can scan the chip and get in touch with the owner if a pet escapes and is discovered.
