Doctors, police urge safety as hot car deaths rise in summer

Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT)Safety officials are warning parents not to forget their most valuable passengers—their youngsters in the backseat—as summer temperatures increase and families travel.

About 37 children in the United States pass away from heatstroke each year as a result of being left in a hot automobile, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Therefore, be sure to check the back seat before you leave.

Never leave your kids or pets unattended in hot conditions, advises Dr. Ali Kamran, Medical Director of Piedmont Macon’s Medical Department.

Children and cats are obviously unable to break down windows, unlock doors, or relocate to a cooler area, Kamran stated. As a result, it becomes risky and potentially fatal. They must never be left in the automobile. The issue is that they won’t be able to call for assistance since they will heat up rapidly. Furthermore, heat damage can worsen rapidly—within minutes.

“Don’t ignore when a child is in danger,” he warns.

“Unfortunately, the first thing to do if you’re a bystander and you see something is to assess the child from the car as soon as possible,” Kamran stated. Moving them to a cool, shaded spot is the next stage. To get the blood flowing, bring them to the ground in a shaded spot.

According to Warner Robins Sergeant Christopher Fussell, a person may step in under Georgia’s Good Samaritan law.

“If a child is in danger, I’ll break a window,” he stated. I would advise calling 911, get a description of the vehicle, and waiting with the youngster until emergency personnel arrive.

According to Dr. Kamran, the child’s body may be negatively affected by the heat.

According to Kamran, if it is disrupted and you are in a hot atmosphere, you would not be able to cool down. After a certain point, your internal organs begin to malfunction, which can result in life-threatening symptoms including heatstroke and cardiovascular collapse. Your body simply cannot make up for this, which can cause death.

Sergeant Fussell offers the following guidance:

He advised not to leave your kids in the car. Bring them along. Or drop them off someplace, with a friend or relative. In the society we live in today, leaving youngsters alone in a car is unsafe in every aspect.

According to Sergeant Fussell, a parent or guardian may face charges of child cruelty if a youngster is left in a heated car.
