Macon-Bibb Transit Authority launches rapid transit pilot program

Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) The Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MTA) is looking for volunteers to take part in a free pilot program that will test a ride-sharing-style transit option.

Starting on Monday, July 7 and ending on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Rapid Transit program will run from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday. During the pilot period, Sundays will not be served.

Like services like Uber or Lyft, the service runs on a smartphone or tablet app. Volunteers agree to occasionally fill out online surveys regarding their ride experience and are required to have a smart smartphone. MTA will use the input to gather information, pinpoint problems, and establish service standards.

Ingleside, Shirley Hills, Gray Highway, and Macon’s downtown/central business sector will all be served by the experimental route. The route’s specific stops include:

  • Riverside Drive to Ingleside Avenue

  • Spring Street to Riverside Drive

  • Spring Street to Shirley Hills’ Nottingham Drive

  • Sheffield Hills to Gray Highway Walmart via Nottingham Drive

  • Piedmont Hospital to Walmart on the Gray Highway

  • Carolyn Crayton Park/Luther Williams Field to Piedmont Hospital

  • Park Carolyn Crayton to Edgewood Avenue

  • Little Richard Penniman Blvd. to Edgewood Avenue.

  • From Mercer University Drive to Little Richard Penniman Boulevard

  • Drive from Mercer University to Pio Nono Avenue

  • Vineville Avenue to Pio Nono Avenue
