Macon man arrested after attempted armed robbery at BP gas station
Georgia’s MACON (WMGT/41NBC) According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a Macon man was taken into custody by Bibb County deputies on Monday during an attempted armed robbery at a BP gas station on Hawkinsville Road.
The announcement states that it took place at 7285 Hawkinsville Road shortly after 2:00 p.m. A man reportedly went into the store and confronted a clerk who was loading an ATM, according to deputies. According to the announcement, the man attempted to flee the establishment after forcibly taking a cash box.
The guy produced a gun when the store manager challenged him. According to the announcement, he fled the store, traveling north on Hawkinsville Road, after dropping the cash box during a fight.
There were no reported injuries.
The suspect was spotted by responding deputies, who pursued him on foot. He was taken into custody on the 6800 block of Hawkinsville Road, close to the railroad tracks.
The suspect was found to be Macon resident Mitchell Todd Baggarly, 38. After being brought to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, he was accused of willful obstruction of law enforcement and armed robbery.
There is no bond on Baggarly’s detention.
