LaTasha R. Butts Memorial Highway dedicated in Milledgeville

Georgia’s Milledgeville (41NBC/WMGT) According to a news release from the Baldwin County School District, state and local officials convened last week to formally dedicate the LaTasha R. Butts Memorial Highway at the intersection of Highway 49 and the 441 Milledgeville Bypass.

The occasion paid tribute to Baldwin County School District Distinguished Alumni LaTasha R. Butts, a Milledgeville native who was well-known for her involvement in breast cancer activism and her undergraduate athletic career.In October 2023, she passed away.

The event was presided over by the Honorable Floyd Griffin, who also gave a reflection on Butt’s life and the pleasure Baldwin County still has in her accomplishments. According to the announcement, Representative Mack Jackson was also present for the occasion, which commemorated the official installation of highway signage after the 2025 Georgia General Assembly passed and signed the bill into law.

According to the district’s release, LaTasha R. Butts was well-known for her advocacy and bravery in the fight against breast cancer in addition to her collegiate athletic career. Her resilience, tenacity, and leadership made a lasting impression on everyone she came into contact with. Her legacy is permanently honored by the highway naming, which also acts as motivation for upcoming generations.
