28th Annual Sparks Over the Park Celebration returns to Lake Tobesofkee

Georgia’s MACON (41NBC/WMGT) On Friday, July 4, Lake Tobesofkee will celebrate Independence Day with its 28th annual Sparks Over the Park celebration.

At 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., the gates to Claystone, Sandy Beach, and Arrowhead parks will open. A complete day of activities, such as swimming, boating, picnicking, disc golf, and more, are available to visitors.

Sandy Beach Park will include live performances by The Plum Tuckered Band from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. At 9:15 p.m., there will be a fireworks display. The finest place to see the fireworks is from Sandy Beach. The west end of the beach in Claystone Park is where visitors may watch the performance.

Each participant must pay $3 to enter. Children under the age of six enter free of charge. Glass containers and alcohol are prohibited in the parks.

According to Lake Tobesofkee Director Donald Bracewell, a sizable population is anticipated on the lake and beaches during the vacation. Our community will have a fantastic day at the lake, and we are confident that everyone will enjoy the live music and entertainment.

Rules and advice for safety

Throughout the day, emergency personnel, Rangers, and the Department of Natural Resources will be at the parks and on the water to assist with any problems.

I hope that everyone abides by the safety guidelines and advice provided by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and rangers. “I said,” Bracewell said.

The safety rules listed below shall be followed:

  • To operate a boat or personal watercraft, a person born on or after January 1, 1998, must complete a boating safety course recognized by the DNR.

  • Every boat needs to be registered and have a copy of their registration.

  • Boaters are required to adhere to all boating regulations and carry a photo ID on board.

  • Every traveler must have access to a personal flotation device (PFD) that is in excellent condition and fits correctly, as approved by the Coast Guard.

  • On a moving vessel, children under the age of thirteen must always wear a PFD.

  • In areas designated for swimming, children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Because of the anticipated traffic and heavy people, officials advise arriving early.

Families from all throughout Central Georgia attend the yearly event, which is one of Bibb County’s biggest Independence Day events.
