Hollywood Minute: Springsteen biopic, crime drama, and a White House thriller head to screens
(CNN)- Fans are getting their first glimpse of Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.” The new trailer, released this week, shows “The Bear” star stepping into the role of The Boss, portraying the music legend during the creation of one of his most critically acclaimed albums, Nebraska. The film is set to hit theaters in October, and White reportedly performs his own singing in the role.
Meanwhile, Netflix is turning up the drama with a new original series, “The Water Front.” Premiering Thursday, the show follows a prominent family that turns to crime in a desperate attempt to keep their empire alive. The gritty series is inspired in part by the real-life experiences of show creator Kevin Williamson, who revealed that his own father was involved in marijuana trafficking during the 1980s.
Also on Netflix’s fall lineup: a high-stakes political thriller from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow. Best known for “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” Bigelow returns with “A House of Dynamite,” a White House thriller centered on a missile attack against the U.S. and the frantic race to find out who’s behind it. The film stars Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, and is expected to debut later this year.
