State Sen. Larry Walker III named Republican nominee for Georgia Senate president pro tempore

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Sen. Larry Walker III (R-Perry) has been named the Republican nominee for President Pro Tempore of the Georgia State Senate.

Walker has presided over the 20th senate district since 2015. According to a press release, Walker became the nominee after an internal Republican caucus vote this week. The full senate body will vote to elect the next President Pro Tem when the 2026 legislative session begins in January.

Walker is looking to replace Sen. John F. Kennedy (R-Macon) in the role, who had to vacate the position when he announced his run for lieutenant governor.
