Macon Bacon Improve to 6-9 with Victory Over the Flamingos
MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Bacon bounced back under the lights of Luther Williams Field on National Mascot Day with a 6-2 victory over the Florence Flamingos on Tuesday night.
Coming off a big loss Monday, Macon wasted no time setting the tone early, racking up four hits and three runs in the first inning before storms forced a rain delay. Once play resumed, the Bacon offense continued to sizzle.
In the fifth inning, Christian Smith reached third base after a walk, a stolen base, and a sacrifice bunt by Billy Ham. Ethan Melton followed that up with a hard-hit line drive to center field, scoring Smith and extending Macon’s lead to 4-0.
The Bacon weren’t done. An errant throw to second allowed Jack Metcho to steal two bases and land on third. Brayden Leonard then delivered a bloop single to shallow right field that landed just inside fair play along the right field line, to bring Metcho home and make it a 5-0 Bacon lead.
Florence answered with two runs in the top of the sixth, but Macon added another insurance run in the bottom of the frame with Ham driving in a run on a ground-ball single through the middle, pushing the lead to 6-2.
That score held as the Bacon improved to 6-9 on the season, moving within four and a half games back of the Coastal Plain League West Division lead.
Macon hits the road Wednesday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish at 7 p.m.
