Hollywood Minute: Ryan Reynolds, Star Trek, Spaceballs Sequel
(CNN)- “Enough of the top of the food chain. It’s time to shift our focus to the bottom.” That’s the mission behind Underdogs, a new National Geographic series narrated by Ryan Reynolds. The show explores the lives of the animal kingdom’s lesser-known misfits and outcasts — creatures often overshadowed by more majestic predators. “They’re basically always behind,” Reynolds says. “They’re working from a deficit… There’s always more to root for when somebody’s trying to battle back against forces much greater, stronger, or more evolved.” Underdogs premieres Sunday on Nat Geo and ABC, and will later stream on Hulu and Disney+.
Paramount+ is preparing to wrap up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The streaming service announced that the show will return for a fifth and final season — consisting of six episodes instead of the usual ten. The highly anticipated third season premieres July 17.
Comedy icon Mel Brooks is back in action — and so is The Schwartz. Brooks announced he’ll reprise his role as “Yogurt” in Spaceballs Two, the long-awaited sequel to the 1987 Star Wars parody. “After 40 years we asked, what do the fans want? But instead we’re making this movie,” Brooks joked. Spaceballs Two is set to hit theaters in 2027.
