Goodall Mill Road repaving underway in Macon-Bibb County through SPLOST funds
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Goodall Mill Road between Sardis Church and Houston Road is being repaved as part of Macon-Bibb County’s Paving the Way program, according to a news release.
The project is currently underway and expected to be finished Friday afternoon, weather permitting. The repaving is funded by the 2018 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and state LMIG funds.
Drivers are asked to use caution, as lanes may be closed during actual work, which requires temporary detours around them.
“For too many years, there were never enough funds made available to care for our aging infrastructure, leading to potholes, sinkholes, collapses along the sides, and failing pavement,” says Mayor Miller. “Now, thanks to the voter-approved SPLOST, we are putting an historic amount toward correcting that mistake.”
According to a news release, the county has completed a scan of more than 1,100 county-owned paved roads to rate their condition. The scan determined roads are the worst and should be addressed first. With that data, a priority list can be created based on things like condition, traffic volume, and more.
“The condition of our roads has become one of the top priorities for our community, and I join with people in their frustration with uneven pavement, potholes that rattle your car, and stripes you can’t see at night,” says Mayor Miller. “That’s why we made sure people knew this would be at the top of our list when it came to this next SPLOST, and it’s the first project we’re moving forward with.”
