Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency setups for another weather radio giveaway

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – We’ve been dealing with a lot of rain lately, that’s why the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency is holding another giveaway to make sure residents are prepared for future severe weather.

1500 Midland Weather Alert Radios will be given away, the radios were purchased using some of the EMA’s operational funds. You will need a proof of residence such as an I.D. to receive a radio, one per resident.

Spencer Hawkins, Director for the EMA says

giveaways have been successful and had a wonderful turnout which is why they decided to hold the event at the Macon Mall tomorrow.

“This gives us better parking, better access, more space,” said Hawkins. “We’ve seen hundreds, literally hundreds of people turn out to pick up these weather radios and we’re excited about it.”

Hawkins says the weather radios will alert you 24 hours a day whenever there is a dangerous situation.

“These weather radios are critical in staying informed about severe weather and other dangerous threats here in central Georgia,” said Hawkins. “We really encourage everybody to have a multilayered approach to weather, alerting and disaster alerting and so that includes our MBC Alert emergency notification system that will call you text, you email, you send, you push notifications about and tell you exactly what’s going on and how to stay safe.”

Hawkins says to stay informed you can also download the MBC Alert app. The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Macon Mall on the Mercer University side.
