Cops on Donut Shops Fundraising Initiative for Special Olympics underway
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Officers with the Warner Robins Police Department were sharing donuts at Dunkins’ with the community on Friday, all for a good cause. Officer Greg Martin says ‘Cops on Donut Shops’ is a fundraiser to help support the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Georgia.
“So, when I explain to people what Law Enforcement Torch Run is, I basically say that Law Enforcement Torch Run is what the Special Olympics is what the Fire Department is to MDA,” said Community Initiatives Officer Greg Martin from the Warner Robins Police Department.
Kim Thompson happened to stop by Dunkin’ during the fundraiser, Thompson said when one of officers explained what the money was going towards, she was happy to support.
“It makes me feel great that this is a cause that they support and it’s just great for the community,” said Thompson.
Community Initiatives Officer Greg Martin said the Special Olympics Games mean a lot to the competitors.
“First and foremost, they are athletes, and they are there to compete and they give everything that they can to win. They want to win but at the end of the day it’s about being able to do what everybody says they can’t,” said Officer Martin.
