Macon nonprofit food drive gives away 100 bags to local families

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A nonprofit in Macon is doing its part to make sure families have food on their tables with their food pantry and community food drive.

Staff at the Nygil M. Cullins Community Center prepared about 100 bags for Thursday’s giveaway.

Laronda Hawkins, clinical director and organizer of the event, said half of the bags were gone within the first 15 minutes.

She said the bags were filled with a variety of items, including canned goods, vegetables, meats and drinks.

Hawkins said they plan to host more food drives like this in the near future.
