18 nurses at Austell hospital go through baby bumps, births together

Nurse Danielle Shaye Hall, who helped start the hospital’s current baby boom with the birth of her second child, Noah, in June 2024, stated that having someone to rely on is literally something you can’t put a price on.

In labor and delivery units, waves of babies are not that uncommon. It’s debatable why they happen. Perhaps it’s because many recent nursing school graduates make maternity their first stop. Perhaps this is due to the fact that many labor and delivery nurses are in their prime reproductive years. Perhaps the reason maternity nurses are there is because they have a strong affection for infants.

In 2021, Wellstar Cobb had a baby boom, with ten nurses having one kid apiece and another having twins.

However, such occurrences seem to be uncommon, with roughly 23% of the unit’s nurses becoming pregnant so soon after one another. The 14-nurse baby boom at a Green Bay, Wisconsin, hospital garnered media attention in May.

Nurses at Wellstar Cobb have exchanged more than just shifts during the current baby boom. They have discussed car seat suggestions, possible baby names, and cravings. Even the proportions of their baby bumps and the swelling in their ankles have brought them closer together.

The group of expectant women has exchanged numerous emails with relevant queries like: Were you feeling queasy at this point? remarked Abigail Abby Dann, a nurse who witnessed the 2021 and 2024–2025 baby surges.

Hall remembers asking, “What kind of car seat do I need?” Do I actually need a bottle warmer, and if so, what sort do I need?

Every time a new baby was announced, the nurses wondered who might be the next. And there was a fanfare for every new pregnancy.

Every nurse at Wellstar Cobb’s labor and delivery unit, according to nursing manager Victoria Tori McGinnis, welcomes the chance to honor one another with a baby shower.

We really enjoy throwing a good party, McGinnis stated.

It’s been a pleasure to see our team grow their families, said Tiffany Carpio, executive director of women and children services at the hospital.

According to Carpio, the fact that the majority of these nurses have decided to give birth at Wellstar Cobb is evidence of the quality of care we offer at WCMC.

“Our team chooses Cobb for one of the most important events of their lives and is confident in the safety and quality of care they will receive here,” she said.

Best friends Both the 2021 and 2024–25 booms had Dann and Hall pregnant.

In each of their pregnancies, Hall lagged behind Dann.

She claimed that I could always rely on her and that she would constantly update me on what to expect.

McGinnis described the planned festivities, shared delight, and togetherness as uplifting.

Nothing compares to seeing and meeting those adorable infants, especially when our team members decide to include us in their delivery process, she added. It’s a very unique full circle experience that demonstrates the bond and trust this team has developed.

Last month, two additional labor and delivery nurses revealed they were expecting.
